Stainless Steel / 316-L VAC MELT

316/316-L Vac Melt is initially electric-arc melted. Then as a refinement to the purity and homogeneity of the metal, the material is Vacuum Arc Remelted (VAR). This process yields a more uniform chemistry with minimal voids and contaminants. 316/316L is an austenitic stainless steel, sometimes referred to as A4 stainless steel or marine grade stainless steel. The addition of molybdenum provides greater corrosion resistance than 304, excelling in harsher atmospheres, where pitting and crevice corrosion can occur through chloride exposure or solvents used in processing. All our material is ordered as 316L grade, which is the low carbon version of 316 stainless steel and meets the specification requirements of both 316 and 316L. When cold worked, 316 can produce high yield and tensile strengths similar to Duplex stainless grades. 316/316L steels offer high creep strength, stress-to-rupture and tensile strength at high temperatures, as well as excellent corrosion resistance and strength properties. It is commonly used in chemical and petrochemical industry, in food processing, pharmaceutical equipment, medical devices, in potable water, wastewater treatment, in marine applications and architectural applications near the seashore or in urban areas.
